Windows 11: A Modern Upgrade

Introduced in 2021, Windows 11 offers significant improvements over Windows 10. Its redesigned interface, enhanced multitasking, and advanced security features cater to modern computing needs. Businesses must also choose between Windows 11 Professional or Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC. The former offers the latest features and updates; the latter offers stability and long-term support. While the upgrade to Windows 11 is advantageous, expertise is essential to ensure that your system can support the stringent hardware requirements.

Enhanced Security

Windows 11 offers robust security features, including hardware-based isolation, encryption, and malware prevention, crucial for protecting sensitive data. The new OS also provides improved performance and efficiency, supporting demanding applications and workloads more effectively. Its user-friendly interface and updated tools boost productivity and collaboration among employees.

Key Hardware Security Measures

  • Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0: A chip providing hardware-based security, safeguarding encryption keys, user credentials, and other sensitive data. TPM verifies the firmware and boot process's authenticity, blocking malicious code.

  • Secure Boot: Ensures that only software trusted by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) can boot. This feature protects against rootkit and bootkit infiltration, maintaining system integrity from startup.

Hardware Requirements

To transition to Windows 11, your computer must meet these hardware requirements:

  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with at least two cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC)
  • RAM: Minimum of 4 GB
  • Storage: Minimum 64 GB
  • System Firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable
  • TPM: Version 2.0
  • Graphics Card: DirectX 12 compatible graphics / WDDM 2.x
  • Display: Larger than 9 inches with HD resolution (720p)
  • Internet Connection and Microsoft Account: Required for initial setup

Timing and Challenges

Microsoft will only support Windows 10 systems until October 2025, giving businesses limited time to plan and execute upgrades. The Industrial Computers team can assist in sorting through potential challenges such as hardware requirements, cost implications, downtime expectations for the transition, software compatibility, and integration with existing systems such as networks and custom applications.

These challenges require careful consideration as you plan your upgrade to Windows 11, especially in industrial and mission-critical environments. Industrial Computers Inc. can help.
